Supercharge Your Brain - 10 Biohacking Tips From a Neuroscientist

Sometime ago I was listening to Mindvalley podcast with @kwilleumier Dr. Kristen was sharing about her new book Biohack Your Brain. I was already practicing many things mentioned in the book, just got another confirmation about efficacy backed by science.

If you want to improve your brain function then here are the 10 tips for you to do so:

💥 1.Brisk Walk - not only it improves your body but has tremendous benefits for your mind. I like to begin my day with a walk. It wasn't always easy, but once I started, I kept at it, little by little, building a habit. It has been 5 years and now it is something I can't live without. Walking is a great opportunity to habit stack. Listen to your favorite book, a podcast or an upbeat track to get yourself instantly in a great mood. Motion creates emotion. You can change how you feel once you start moving. Walking in nature also promotes ease of mind as you ponder on that tree, or flower or a beach shoreline.

💥 2. Blueberries - eat 1 cup a day.
It is nutritious, high in antioxidants, tastes great and it is good for you. I have started a new habit of placing a bowl of blueberries on kitchen counter, this way when it is in plain sight there are more chances that it is not going to be forgotten inside the fridge.

💥 3.Dark Chocolate - eat 1 square of 70% dark chocolate. I'm not a big fan of chocolate, but if you crave something sweet try this instead of sugary candy.

💥4. Straight Back
Sitting up ⬆️ straight promotes better blood flow to your brain. Not only that but you instantly feel better. Try it for yourself and see how you feel. Sit up straight, roll your shoulders back, pump up your chest slightly forward, take a breath in and out.

💥5. Visualize your day

This way you get to practice your day before it happens. Like programming for best outcome and troubleshooting. Let’s say you know you’ll be dealing with a tough situation, you get to rehearse how your best self handles it as well as prepare several possible questions or solutions ahead of time. When this takes place you’ll be ready to recall from memory what you rehearsed.
Scientific studies have also shown positive effects of visualization on immunity, stress, healing and pain management.

💥6. Writing ✍️ with non-dominant hand

This pushes your brain 🧠 out of comfort zone and creates new neural pathways.

💥7.Daily Gratitude
Choose your way to express gratitude. My personal best, in the morning, as soon as your feet hit the floor, do nose to belly breathing and declare 3 things you are grateful for. Don't just verbalize but really feel them deep down in your heart. Say it, feel it, hear it and internalize it. Suddenly your world would lit up.

💥8. White Space

Who would have thought that 10 minutes of white space per day, when you don't have to think about anything at all, will clear your mind. Think of it like a a fast from all the noise and busyness of the world, your mind just like your body needs that tranquil relaxation and white space does just that. Try it out and see how you feel.

💥9. Smell Stress Away

Have you tried essential oils? What's your favorite? Bergamot & Lavender calm your senses. While Frankincense improves memory retention and sharpens the mind. Not only do these smell great but they also take the stress away. I think we could all use less stress in our life, wouldn't you agree?

💥10. Learn New Word Everyday

This promotes brain function and stretches you out of comfort zone. I've been always fascinated by foreign languages, so this one is a no brainer. Fluent in 2 and basic understanding in other 2. If you are into languages check out Duolingo app, awesome for learning languages. I can add to that list is learn something new every day, something interesting, whether it is a new skill, a new book, or a new trait you can develop.
